With the recent highly publicized attacks on Colonial Pipeline and JBS, we’ve had questions from some of our clients about protecting FileMaker data from ransomware attacks. While we are always careful to make it clear that we are not security professionals, we also try to do our best to answer our client’s questions, and so we have done some self-education recently as well as group discussions during our weekly developer meetings.
One of the newest script steps in FileMaker (added in FileMaker 19.0) is the Execute FileMaker Data API script step. The script step is quite powerful as it allows us to easily interact with the FileMaker Data API by making requests and returning data without having to go through the hoops of creating and authenticating a session.

The process of updating FileMaker files in iOS has always been sort of a question mark, with multiple ideas for how to best accomplish it, each with their own limitations. We developed a process to update files in iOS a number of years ago, but we’ve updated the process with some of the newer FileMaker 18 features that make the process more seamless, while altogether giving it a more native look and feel.
In this video, we’re showing some of the new FileMaker 17 developer features, specifically the redesigned developer palettes, the new grouping functionality, and the new “Default Fields” functionality.

Our client, a healthcare facility, uses FileMaker to manage their patient care data. It integrates with DrFirst ePerscription and Labcorp lab testing services. We created an iOS app to allow doctors to view a subset of this data on their phones.
