FileMaker Summer Camp … Unconference … PauseOnError

PauseOnError, the FileMaker ‘un-conference’ has been the main in-person developers conference now for two years. This year’s version will take place next week in Georgia. Last year Portage Bay did a session on the different kinds of logging in FileMaker – event logging, audit logging, error logging, etc. This year we’re going to do a session on learning third party APIs – tools we use, looking at documentation, etc. Portage Bay’s senior level developer, Joe Ranne, and I will lead the discussion and I’m sure we’ll learn as much from the session attendees as they might learn from us.

Announcing the Claris Beyond User Group!

The Claris FileMaker Western Washington group and the Claris Connect Meetup are joining together to form a new user group called Claris Beyond. The Western Washington group brings a long history of respect for the FileMaker platform and a deep knowledge of its foundations and capabilities. The Claris Connect group brings an interest in exploring connectors and ways to bridge the gap between FileMaker and other applications. Together, the Claris Beyond user group will continue that shared eagerness to harness the strength of FileMaker while seamlessly connecting it with technology at large – whether that be through Claris Connect, API’s, Tableau, JavaScript, and more.

Announcing Claris Studio + The Problem Solvers Circle

Last week, Claris announced two exciting new initiatives, the first a new Software as a Service (SaaS) platform called Claris Studio, and the second a new program for helping Claris users get the most out of their solutions. The Problem Solvers Circle is, “a development platform that lets you take control, instead of reinventing the wheel, allowing you to continuously innovate to make substantial operational improvements.” Enrollment in the PSC program is limited to the first 500 companies to sign up before June 24th, so contact us soon if you’d like to enjoy its benefits!

Happy 10th Birthday to our FileMaker Blog!

Welcome to post #182 of our Portage Bay Solutions blog! Our blog launched ten years ago on this date and is something we enjoy creating in order to continue with our own learning and knowledge and to help our Claris FileMaker community stay engaged and curious as well. We’ve covered topics such as navigating portals like a spreadsheet, ransomware awareness, our appreciation for PauseOnError, and our preference for pasta puttanesca. The past year has seen over 2,500 downloads of our free add-ons & demos (which number over twenty and counting!) And in the last six years our number of unique visitors has grown over 3,000%, from 800 per year to over 26,000. Thank YOU for following along and participating with us.

Our Thoughts on Heading Into a New Year!

It’s time for moving on from the holidays and towards Auld Lang Syne and new year wishes. We’ve collected some personal and business reflections from our team to wrap up this past year while looking forward to the next, and we wanted to offer them to our readers as well. Through all of the ups and downs that life tends to bring, we continue to be grateful for connections made, experiences gathered, and lessons learned and shared. Thank you for being a part of the Portage Bay Solutions sphere. We wish you & your families a very Happy New Year!

Engage Beyond 2021 – Update

This year marks the second virtual Claris Engage, a conference formerly known as DevCon, and widely attended by FileMaker developers, near and far. I’ve attended many of the events already and below is a short recap of what we’ve seen so far, and what we have to look forward to in the future.
