It seems like every developer has a side project, a niche SaaS idea, or a web application built to solve a problem they’ve encountered in their lives or the lives of those around them. Our devs certainly do! Outside of their technical discussions, they’ve been building web applications whose origins all started with the question, “What if?”, and turned into, “What else?”
Real-world problems often become inspiration for innovative software.
Diplomare
Xandon’s project grew from the challenge of navigating the college admissions process for his twins. With monitoring countless moving pieces such as application tracking, deadlines, and recruiting opportunities, he was stuck with hundreds of links and no real information. His starter solution is now a full-stack web application complete with subscriptions, user management, and payment processing for higher tiers. All the information needed for each kid, all in one place.
Easy form submissions from the web to FileMaker
John’s healthcare portal stems from how personal experience and industry-specific challenges can affect the design of software solutions. His web app is built to provide a public-facing web form for referral submissions which improves access to information and simplifies complex processes while still being user-friendly. The system changes required fields based on the referral type and routes submitted data into the FileMaker system. His goal was to create a more reliable way for people to submit referrals online without needing to interact directly with FileMaker.
Homeschool help
Lastly, Jacob showcases the homeschool learning platform that he made for his daughter. The web app helps him and his wife design personalized education plans for her and other special-needs students. The tool plans curricula, day-to-day activities, and tracks learning pathways. The project started as a way to create a more personalized educational experience for his family, and he has hopes of being able to help other homeschooling families whose children have unique learning needs.
The discussion continues
As has been a recent topic in the developer community, the team talks about client-driven web applications and the growing trend of developers building specialized SaaS products for highly targeted audiences. What once might have remained a spreadsheet, notebook, or collection of disconnected tools can now quickly become a polished web application with modern development platforms and AI-assisted workflows.
Web development has become far more accessible, where personal projects can rapidly grow into something bigger than scattered notes and files.
As with most inventions, the best ideas often start with a statement born from frustration: “There has got to be a better way to do this!”
