FILEMAKER DEVCAST

As we move into another new year, we’d like to let you know that 2023 will see the launch of our very own podcast – the FileMaker DevCast, about everything FileMaker. We’re putting the final touches on the first couple of episodes and more details will be available soon online at our website and on social media. 

When you tune in, you’ll be listening to one of our regular dev meetings, where we gather to discuss various programming topics primarily related to Claris FileMaker.

These meetings are opportunities for us to connect with each other, to share our insights and experiences, to learn, and to hone our craft. We would be honored for you to spend the time with us and we hope you’ll learn and grow right along with our team. 

Since our podcast is created from one of our developers’ meetings, our conversations won’t be intended to be a tutorial or an exhaustive means to accomplish a task. It’ll simply be us talking. Glean what you will and use the information in your own learning and programming.

We imagine you’ll find something useful, something thought-provoking, and something to take into your own development approach – things to help you be more productive and to allow you and your own team to get more done in less time.

FILEMAKER FIXIT!

We invite you to join us in Zoom twice a month for FileMaker FixIt! for FREE help with YOUR FileMaker issues. This open meeting is hosted by one of our expert Claris FileMaker developers, who is available to answer your questions.

Attendance is free and is open to all. We can help with a variety of areas. Here’s some of what you can expect when you join the call:

• Answers to your Claris FileMaker questions

• Advice about any hurdles you are experiencing

• Help implementing things you’ve read about in our blog posts or found through a download from our website

• Insight into your own FileMaker or Claris Connect ventures

• Assistance with API integrations into your solutions

• How to get started creating mobile apps

• Details about hosting files with FileMaker Cloud

And, of course, more! The sky is just about the limit. Bring your questions and thoughts – we look forward to the discussion!

FILEMAKER FUN

Portage Bay has always been a remote-work company, even before the pandemic brought that option into the mainstream for a whole lot more of you.

Our owner and one of our developers live in the Seattle area. And following the map westward, the rest of us are found in California, Idaho, Nebraska, Texas, and Florida.

We’re used to each working independently while also collaborating and communicating frequently using the tools of the online world.

Through a random conversation in one of our aforementioned dev meetings, we got to talking about computer and monitor setups. Our easternmost developer, Andy, shared a photo of his desk and boy did the intrigue and amazement, and a little bit of drooling, get started.

He so far wins the prize among us for both best screen real estate and best ambient lighting!

The monitor banter prompted a flurry of Slack photo sharing, of the rest of our workplace settings, and it was great to get a further glimpse into each other’s lives and personalities. We thought it would be neat to share those views with you as well, as a fun wrap-up to this New Year’s Eve Eve post.
